Last spring one of my Young Adult Literature class assignments was a teen culture project. I chose to make a glogster about "Teens and Texting."
Reasons you should check this out:
1. My younger daughter is interviewed here (bribes were involved!).
2. My best friend's son and his friends are texting fiends, as you will see.
3. Glogster is so much fun and so easy to use!

Other blogs...
There are two other blog listings under my profile - one is "Comparing 3 Library Media Centers" which is rather self-explanatory. The other is "Crack the Code" which was created with one of my colleagues in the MLS program as part of a larger virtual reality game. We designed our part of the game to include factual information about Benjamin Franklin and his invention of the glass armonica. After much research, we decided to use my musical background as the basis for our clue. The musical encryption involved my composing a piece of music in the style of the 1800s and burying the answer to the puzzle (the first note of each measure). Virtual reality games are frequently becoming important tools for libraries to use to reach out to the community. Children are particularly excited about participating in these games. A virtual reality game would be a highly motivational tool for a summer reading program. Ben Franklin's "secret" can be found by cracking the code! A message is hidden in the music - yes, you will need to know the treble note names. Just remember, Every Good Boy Does Fine. Here's hoping you will, too:)
The Professor's Influence
I have been a church organist for almost 30 years. One of my majors in college was Applied Music in Organ: not your typical major! During one of my MLS classes we were charged to produce a 3-minute product that showcased a pivotal moment or experience in our lives. This was a great project to encourage us to explore video tools. I chose to use Photo Story to describe my love for playing and one rather embarassing musical moment! Enjoy!
African Foktales: Pathfinder for Fourth Graders!
Here is one of my first projects done 3 years ago as part of the MLS program. I am archiving it here so I can access it one day as a media specialist! Fourth graders are invited to take a trip across the ocean to the continent of Africa...be sure to play the music (bottom left tab) while you explore the art of writing and performing African folktales!

The Art of Storytelling
Two summers ago I took "Storytelling" as an elective in my MLS program. I remember being very excited about the course - telling stories sounded like fun - and I was not disappointed! Although it was an online course my assignments required that I find audiences for my stories and videotape myself in the process. I borrowed children from my friends and from the neighborhood. Here is "Just Enough Material!" I told a story in front of my peers. And I enjoyed myself! Here is a link to "Go Ask the Wise Woman!" Here's hoping you enjoy it, too!
